Kharif Harvest Grows 4% by Favorable Rainfall

Paddy, the major kharif crop, has seen a 4% increase in sown area this year over the previous year. Production has increased due to good rainfall and favourable field conditions. If the weather in September is favorable, the paddy crop could do even better.

Urad and cotton crops facing challenges

This season, the area covered by urad and cotton is less. Urad has faced bad rainfall and poor soil conditions, which have impacted crop growth. The cotton crop is also seeing less production. It requires certain weather conditions to grow well, and this year's weather has not been good. Low rainfall and high temperatures have negatively affected cotton yields. Farmers are worried about receiving low or negligible output this year.

September Weather Impacts: Kharif Crop Yields in Flood-Hit States

In recent times, heavy rainfall in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Gujarat has damaged some crops. They were due to be harvested soon. Damage is still being assessed. The flooding could reduce the yield of crops despite an increase in the total sowing area.

The weather in September will be crucial to get the output of the kharif crops. Satisfactory weather conditions might lead to better yield, while continuous unfavourable conditions may reduce it further.

Therefore, more land has been put under paddy cultivation this year. The floods have affected urad and cotton crops. Now, the exact yield of these crops depends upon the weather in September.
