In a groundbreaking announcement, New Holland Agriculture introduced its latest innovation, the T7.270 Methane Power CNG tractor, during an international fair. This cutting-edge tractor combines alternative fuel technology. It also boasts high-performance capabilities, widening its appeal to a broader range of prospective buyers.
This new tractor is based on the T7 model. It comes with the PLM Intelligence platform and features the Horizon Ultra cab. The tractor is powered by the proven NEF 6.7-litre methane-fueled engine, which has already made its mark in the T6.180 Methane Power tractor. The T7.270 boasts an impressive 270hp output. It also offers a peak torque of 1,160Nm under all conditions. This performance is achieved thanks to an innovative engine map designed to meet the expectations of this segment.
New Holland's design team has capitalised on the T7's larger chassis to optimise onboard gas storage. This results in a remarkable 1,265 litres (219kg) capacity, a whopping 178% more than the T6.180 Methane Power. This enhancement makes the T7.270 more powerful and capable of handling larger implements. It also significantly extends its working hours between refuelling stops, increasing productivity and range.
Methane is a cleaner-burning fuel. Consequently, the T7.270 Methane Power CNG doesn't require a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. This absence of SCR frees up space for additional fuel storage. Additionally, this tractor can run on methane and biomethane. These alternative fuels are derived from livestock manure and slurry, which makes them an ideal choice for biodigester operators and large-scale farms.
The T7.270 Methane Power CNG includes a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This feature offers a smoother driving experience and enhances fuel efficiency. This makes it particularly suitable for hauling heavy trailers weighing over 18 tonnes.
The cab design has been revamped for the T7.270 Methane Power CNG, with new cab supports and a relocated battery to accommodate a larger gas tank. The cab is the award-winning Horizon Ultra, known for its industry-leading quietness at just 66 decibels, ensuring operator comfort and reducing fatigue. The Horizon Ultra offers 8% more internal volume, providing extra space for operators and storage.
The T7.270 Methane Power CNG also benefits from New Holland's PLM Intelligence solutions. These solutions facilitate the transfer of machine and field data between the tractor and the MyPLMConnect online portal. This enables remote monitoring and support for the tractor.
Commenting on the launch, Carlo Lambro, Brand President of New Holland Agriculture, stated, "We believe it is strategically important to invest in methane, and especially biomethane, to offer buyers the best alternative fuels for the future." He emphasised the growing demand for more powerful and efficient tractors and the need for sustainable solutions in the agricultural sector.
Oscar Baroncelli, New Holland Agriculture Head of Tractors and Telehandlers, expressed confidence in the T7.270 Methane Power CNG, stating, "Whether or not they have experienced a methane-powered tractor, we are confident the T7.270 Methane Power CNG will meet the expectations of farmers and contractors who need this size of tractor."
The first production T7.270 Methane Power CNG tractors are currently undergoing testing, with units expected to be available for purchase in the second half of 2024.
